Finding abandoned horses and other livestock on your property unfortunately is not an uncommon problem, but it is important as a landowner to know what your rights are.
Legislation was passed in 2015 which makes it easier to stop to unlawful grazing, and help prevent animal cruelty, neglect and abandonment. Private and public landowners, as well as local authorities can act quickly to protect the animals and remove them from their property under this Act of Parliament.
What should I do if I find an abandoned horse or livestock on my land?
First and foremost it is important to begin looking after the animal’s welfare, as they are on your land you have an obligation to do so. Birmingham Bailiffs will provide you with a range of options as to how best to manage the situation including locating owners and arranging the removal of the animals if necessary.
We will work closely with the police and other relevant agencies to ensure the animals are dealt with in a humane fashion with a minimum of distress.
